More in My Little Garden

Yesterday, I updated a video about the latest progress in my balcony garden.

While creating that video, a deeper thought struck me. As I was tending to the flowers and berries, I realized there is something transcending the plants themselves that has entered my life.

There is a Chinese concept called "Tian Ren He Yi" (天人合一), which means the harmony between heaven and humanity. Sometimes, I feel like I'm practicing a modern, micro-version of this philosophy in my small garden. It helps me reconnect with nature right here in this concrete jungle. It allows me to perceive the cycle of the four seasons: birth in spring, growth in summer, harvest in autumn, and storage in winter. These changes are subtle day by day, but when viewed over a longer period, they become quite profound.

Another concept is "Ge Wu Zhi Zhi" (格物致知)—investigating things to extend knowledge. The process of waiting for blooms and fruit teaches me the virtue of patience. It forces me to respect the immutable laws of life and understand that "haste makes waste." It also reminds me that if I want a good result, I must put in the work.

There’s still more on my mind, but I have to go—maybe I’ll share it next time.

You can watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/WqxZ42lgIv8

As usual, if you find any mistakes, please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

Yesterday, I {updated a video | made a video update} about the latest progress in my balcony garden.

“Update a video” means you took an existing video and made some changes to bring it up to date. This seems like a completely new video, so I wouldn’t use “updated” as the verb here.

It’s a lovely little garden!

Your pronunciation in the video is good. The only word that struck me as sounding a bit odd was “trees” near the end. I hear a diphthong (a blend of two different vowels) in your pronunciation of this word. Some native English speakers—e.g., in the southeastern U.S.—do pronounce “tree” with a diphthong, but it’s inconsistent with the variety of English you’re using throughout the rest of the video.
