For me motivation is not something easy. My brain works under pressure, and for me, that was the "motivation" that I needed to learnt languages. In highschool I had french and english, both of them were awfull, I hated it so much, for me they weren't the worst subjects and I wasn't really good at it. However, when I was collegue I understood the importance to speak other languages. The opportunities are limitless when you are able to speak another language, especially english. Then french (because I did my master in france), at first i thought that my french was perfect, but no, I couldn't undestand french native speakers ! after for years of effort I'm able to, and right now i think I'm into languages I really like them.

"understood" is a little unnatural in this context, implying that you understood then but not now. "realized," "finally understood," or the more neutral "learned" would be better when describing a long-term, persistent state change.

Aside from spelling & punctuation, these are just suggestions to make the sentence flow a bit more naturally.
