The Village Fair

The town my village belongs to has a fair every year. The fair is held on the 18th day of the 4th lunar month.
The fair date was usually two weeks before the wheat harvest, as wheat was the main crop where I lived.
I'm sure that now the fair is for people to buy specific tools to harvest their wheat.

At the fair, straw hats, wooden shovels, wooden forks, plastic bags and sickles were the main goods, along with some other items for daily use.
There were also opera singers, stilt walkers and magicians to liven up the fair atmosphere. And some sellers sold their things in a very funny way.

As kids, we neither sold nor bought; we just went to the fair to enjoy the lively atmosphere. Usually, our parents would give us a few dimes, and we would use them to buy local traditional street foods, such as a small bowl of fermented glutinous rice, or salty sesame paste porridge, and a baked sesame cake.

After the fair, villagers started preparing for the wheat harvest. They made a threshing floor, sharpened sickles, and so on.
Attending the fair was a lot of fun, and it was something we kids always looked forward to.

I have been away from rural life for decades. I know the fair still exists in my hometown, but I don't know what it is like now, as I haven't attended it since I left my village.

The town my village belongs to has a fair every year. The town my village belongs to has a fair every year.

A village is normally just a small town. Subsections of a town are usually suburbs. I'm not 100% sure what you mean here, but maybe county or region would work better?

The town near my village belongs to has a fair every year. The town near my village has a fair every year.

I know that “belongs to” is technically correct in a Chinese context, but it would require a lot of explanation to make sense to most Westerners. Saying the town is “near” your village is easier for non-Chinese readers to understand and doesn’t affect the story.

TWhen I was little, the fair date was usually two weeks before the wheat harvest, as wheat was the main crop where I lived. When I was little, the fair date was usually two weeks before the wheat harvest, as wheat was the main crop where I lived.

The previous sentence is in the present tense (the fair IS held...) so I think you should either put this sentence in present tense as well, or specify that you are now shifting to talk about only your childhood experience of the fair ("When I was a child/when I was little...")

{The fair date | This} was usually two weeks before the wheat harvest, as wheat was the main crop where I lived. {The fair date | This} was usually two weeks before the wheat harvest, the main crop where I lived.

“As” implies a causal relationship between wheat being the main crop and the fair falling on that specific date, but I don’t see one here, so I suggest deleting “as wheat was.”

Just --> if you think the fair used to be more, but now it is JUST for buying stuff

Looking back, I'm sure that now the fair iwas for people to buy specific tools to harvest their wheat. Looking back, I'm sure that the fair was for people to buy specific tools to harvest their wheat.

I assume this is what you mean, since you later say you haven’t attended the fair in decades and don’t what it’s like today.

And some sellers sold their things in a very funny way.

And some sellers sold their things in a very funny way. And some sellers sold their things in a very funny way.

Normally you don't start a sentence with "And", but it's not a totally fixed rule.

And some sellers sold their things in a very funny way. And some sellers sold their things in a very funny way.

This sentence is good, but it could be even better if you added an example of how their way of selling things was funny.

And some sellers sold their things in a very funny way. And some sellers sold their things in a very funny way.

Are you referring to the words and phrases they called out when trying to attract customers?

As kids, we neither sold nor bought; we just went to the fair to enjoy the lively atmosphere.

Are your small coins really called dimes?

Usually, our parents would give us a few dimes, and we would use them to buy local traditional street foods, such as a small bowl of fermented glutinous rice, or salty sesame paste porridge, or a baked sesame cake.

I assume that a baked sesame cake is also a street food, so I think "or" would be better than "and" here.

I assume you’re referring to mao coins. “Dime” is used only in the US and Canada and specifically means a tenth of a U.S. or Canadian dollar.
