Indeed, European countries are usually very small. Some countries are not even as big as one of our provinces and the entire Europe is not even as big as Canada. In our city, some travel agencies have launched ten-country tour routes in Europe and the route’s price is 20.000 to 30.000 yuan or so. I once traveled within our country and if you are driving, the traveling expenses will be 1 yuan per kilometer. If you take a plane or high speed train, the traveling expenses will be 0.5 to 0.7 yuan per kilometer. The accommodation fee will be low to 100 yuan per night if you choose an inn. (In our city, a standard room in an economic hotel usually costs 150yuan per night). According to the current living standard, a meal for breakfast costs 5 to ten yuan, and lunch or dinner costs 15 to 30 yuan. As to the attractions tickets, they range from tens of yuan to hundreds of yuan. This is all about the expenses of traveling in China. Speaking of the city and countryside, I think the air and sunshine in the countryside are beneficial for people’s health and this is what cities don’t have.

Is there a city in China that offers fresh air and sunshine? In many of the big cities in the US, you can still have lots of fresh air and sunshine, particularly those that are close to the ocean.

I think that environmental protection in America is better than in China. In my opinion, the US has less population and is also one contribution to the fresh air. In China, the places with good air quality are mainly distributed to the northeast, southeast coastal areas and southwest plateau areas. The places with bad air quality are mainly distributed to the mid-northern and northwest parts of China. The city with the best quality is Haikou, and cities surrounding Shijiazhuang usually have bad air quality. As for Anhui Province, Huangshan is the city that has the best air quality. In short, no matter whether it's in Anhui or China, southern cities usually have better air quality than in the northern part.

I was in several places in China with excellent air quality. Lijiang, Shangri-la (near Tibet), Alta (in northern Xinjiang), the grasslands of Xinjiang, and Dunhuang. Also, near the Tiger Leaping Gorge and the first bend of the Yangtze River. My son really loved Haikou, but he said there were so many Russian tourists there. I guess it is where they get warm weather. I feel that Canadians and Russians are constantly looking for warmth.

I didn’t think you had been to so many places in China. It's amazing! Although I am Chinese, I haven’t been to Altei and Dunhuang. I am so curious about your job. How do you have a lot of time and a lot of money to travel? Could you please share it with me?

I love to travel and have been to over 70 countries. I was the owner of an IT company but I’ve sold my company and enjoying a life of leisure. I was born in Taiwan but my family came from Beijing in 1949. My favorite place in the world is Patagonia on the Chilean side. During Covid, i take care of my parents and online classes. I enjoy langcorrect.

Thank you for sharing. You said you were born in Taiwan, but your parents were from Beijing in 1949. This makes me think of that special period of history. I really envy your current life, and that’s the life I am looking for. But so far I can’t achieve it.

My mom was only 13 when she arrived in Taiwan. My dad was in the Air Force school and later on he was shot down over Fukien. I was only 1 month old, so I grew up without a father. That was a terrible time when Chinese killed other Chinese. I don’t harbor any hatred because I think we should be more United. Btw, my grandmother on my mom’ side was Manchurian, and my dad’s family is Muslim from Nanking. Very complicated. You are very hard working. I think you will have a good life and be able to travel.

I am impressed by your background. That was a tough time when you were a child. We can’t change history and we can’t control history as well. That time was still a hard time for China and the Chinese. However, all that has passed, and you have a wonderful life now. I hope you stay happy and healthy, and I hope your mom is happy and healthy too. Btw, your mom is just 5 years younger than my mom.
