The benefit of writing

First, when I go to the store, I forget the groceries my mum told me to buy, so I make a list.
Second, I can write letters to St, Nicolas and Santa Claus, what gifts to bring me.
Next, I have relatives in Australia, so we´re sending postcards.
Finally, to make learning easier, we write down what is important and what we need to learn.

1. "First of all, ..." could also be used. 2. You would use present tense for "tell(s)", instead of past tense "told", since you're describing a series of actions in a common habitual situation. (Note: not always though, by some speakers this might be seen as normal.)
