"Toy Story 5" will be released in Japan on Friday, July 3.
In preparation for the new release, promotional activities have become more active, such as broadcasting all the previous films on TV.
Since "Toy Story 5" has already been released in the U.S., I'm curious about local reactions. At the same time, I want to avoid spoilers, so I'm trying not to check social media.
According to Japanese online news, "Toy Story 5" has been well received. However, some people in Japan say that American and Japanese sensibilities are different, so it may not necessarily be a masterpiece for Japanese audiences.
In the U.S., "Toy Story 4" seems to have received high praise. In Japan, however, although it was a box office success, it was heavily criticized.
Ironically, some Japanese people love King Magnifico from "Wish," which is widely considered a poor film worldwide.
In Japan, internet users jokingly say:
"Toy Story 4 doesn't exist!"
"This movie is trash!"
"The first new Toy Story movie in 16 years!"
I also have several complaints about "Toy Story 4."
1. Bonnie was deeply attached to Woody in "Toy Story 3," but quickly lost interest in him in "Toy Story 4."
2. Woody, who had already lived a fulfilling life, is forced into self-sacrifice by Gabby Gabby, who had a defect.
3. Bo Peep, who is a porcelain doll, moves around freely.
I have many more complaints.
I wonder if I will be able to enjoy "Toy Story 5."

I agree with the other commenter's note about "rated poorly." For myself, I might write: ". . . which was criticized worldwide."

Feedback
"The first new Toy Story movie in 16 years!" Made me laugh.
IIRC, the criticism around Toy Story 4 in the States largely centered around how good the ending of Toy Story 3 was. It felt like the toys all learned something, an old part of their life closed while a new one opened up, and it was really good as a trilogy of films. So when Toy Story 4 happened, many people were like, "Why this? You ended it so perfectly."
I had a good time at Toy Story 5. They are fun movies generally and my attachment to the characters is very real--sentimental, almost. The films are all well-made and keep your attention--Toy Story 5 is no different from the others in that regard. I think there are a few lightly recycled plot points from prior movies, and it takes awhile for the movie to come together, but all the time spent with Jessie I think is the standout component of the film.
If you see the movie, I will try to keep an eye out for your impressions!

Just a small note that there's no need for the movie name to be in quotes. In fact it reads strangely to me. Quotation marks are usually used if you're referencing something someone else said, or something that was written somewhere.

'rated poorly' instead of widely considered a poor film would sound more natural

However, some people in Japan say that American and Japanese Sensibilities kind of sounds like they are sensitive in different ways, like Japanese people get offended by one thing while Americans don't and vice versa. I think sense of humor is a better fit here when talking about what people find interesting. This sentence has been marked as perfect! This sentence has been marked as perfect! "This movie is trash!"
"Th Usually, if the movie was just watched and the comments are underneath the movie, like in a youtube video, the comments would say this is trash. But if it is something like a forum, then it would be that movie is trash. But I think it depends on context. Perhaps, someone online would say this movie is trash, but I think when telling us what someone said, you could say they said that movie is trash. But I also understand the direct quotes so. Maybe another native speaker can say what they think. This sentence has been marked as perfect! This sentence has been marked as perfect! This sentence has been marked as perfect! |

Woody, who had already lived a fulfill Fulfilling is correct, but I think I would use fulfilled here to show that his life was basically over and he was ready to retire and throw in the towel.
