我最近開始再讀我喜歡的一本小說，《Babel: Or the Necessity of Violence: An Arcane History of the Oxford Translators' Revolution》。作者的名字是 Rebecca F. Kuang. 她最有名的一叢書是她写的《The Poppy War》的三部曲。

《Babel: Or the Necessity of Violence: An Arcane History of the Oxford Translators' Revolution》的主角，Robin Swift, 是一位來自香港的少年。他媽去世了，但是他父親，Lovell教授，帶他去英國。Robin的父親是一位英國語言學家，為牛津大学工作。

小Robin是Lovell教授私生的兒子。Lovell的性格特別冰冷，他救他兒子的唯一的原因是因為Robin擅長學多種語言。在故事開始的時候，Robin的粵語，普通話，和英文都特別流利。這本小說特別顛覆性，因為細節批評英國殖民主义。書裡的大問題是“如果你是一位海外的少數民族，你會怎麼同化進頭號社會裡面？你會不會背叛你來自的地方，你的家鄉，你的一切？“

Little Robin is Professor Lovell's illegitimate child. Lovell has a particularly cold personality, the only reason he saved his son is because Robin has a knack for learning foreign languages. When the story begins, Robin's Cantonese, Mandarin, and English are all incredibly fluent. This novel is very subversive, because the plot criticizes British colonialism. The big questions posed by this book are "If you were an ethnic minority living abroad, how are you going to assimilate into the dominant culture? Will you betray the place you come from, your hometown, and everything about you?"
