My partner's company just had a round of layoffs because of this. And they brought in these dumb metrics that don't actually measure anything useful (stuff like number of GitHub commits to the main branch, which encourages terrible coding practices lol), which they will be using for the next round of layoffs.
Oh, and I wonder where this profit goes... do these people ever think about who is going to buy their products when no one has a job?
