I have a katakana hanko, which I had made in Osaka. I agree, it's so strange that it can be as legitimate as a fingerprint to confirm identity!

I think that hanko is suitable for souvenir or decoration items, but it should be banned as a signature. As you noticed, Japanese companies and public offices have used it even though it's not reliable.

In Australia, we call those kind of stores "Two-dollar shops" even though most things actually cost more than two dollars. I went to one yesterday and bought cat toys and nail polish!

Thank you for your correction! Two Australian dollars are reasonable taking into account the difference of cost of living between two countries. Sometimes, I add items over 100 yen without checking the price. I didn't notice that there are cat toys at those kind of shop since I don't have cats.
