I've found it hard to keep track of several English-Chinese bilingual chats with a young friend. Maybe it's due to the app - WeChat can get a bit too casual and cluttered.
That's why I've decided to move these conversations to Microsoft Teams for a more dedicated space.

Also, I might omit “young,” since the friend’s age is probably beside the point and including it here could come across as condescending.

Sorry, I’m not sure which of my comments you’re referring to. If you mean this one, “Do you mean you’ve forgotten about or missed several sessions?”, then I would say no, you did not imply it was your fault, just that it was difficult for you to keep track of the sessions. I was just trying to understand what you meant, so I asked this question in an effort to clarify the situation.

Well, it depends on the context. I don’t know exactly what you mean in the above example, so I’ll give another one: if I see a car bump another one in traffic and I say, “The young driver looks very upset,” this might imply that I think the fact that the driver is young is somehow related to the accident or the driver’s reaction, and this could be seen as condescending, as if an older driver wouldn’t have bumped the other car or wouldn’t have gotten upset. Does this make sense?
