n English, it’s quite simple. From 6:00 a.m. to 11:59 a.m., we say “Good morning.” From 12:00 noon to 4:59 p.m., it’s “Good afternoon.” From 5:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m., it’s “Good evening.”

In Yoruba, only the evening greeting is different. From around 5:00 p.m. until it starts getting dark, we say “Good evening.” From 7:00 p.m. (by this time, it’s already dark) to 11:59 p.m., there’s another kind of greeting. The direct English translation would be “good night,” but it doesn’t actually mean that.
