I think the hardest part is Chinese characters. When I started learning Chinese in 2020, the most difficult thing was the characters—how to write them. At that time, the material I was using was Duolingo. Back then, Duolingo didn’t teach how to write characters. Although it has improved now, it still has many shortcomings. A lesson that should have taken me five minutes usually took me about an hour, because I wrote so slowly.

At that time, I was also learning Spanish. Since Spanish letters are similar to English letters, I enjoyed learning Spanish more.

Because of this, I soon lost interest in learning Chinese. But now things are much better. These days I often don’t need to write characters, but at least I know the basics of writing them.
