今天学的成语

我今天在中文课学到了一条新的成语:“对牛弹琴”。成语的意思是:你会说什么,但是别人不懂你,因为他们懵懵懂懂或者太多吃多占来懂。比如,当我同学们跟我说中文的话,我不能回答他们的问题因为我说中文得糟透。他们只对牛弹琴。

I learned a new idiom in Chinese class today: "To play a lute to a cow." What the idiom means is that you can say something but the other person doesn't understand because they are either ignorant or too self centered to understand. For example, when my classmates speak Chinese to me, I can't answer their questions because I speak Chinese horribly. They are only playing a lute to a cow.

I think it's not suitable to use "对牛弹琴" in this scene.

"对牛弹琴" usually refers to the situation in which you express the feeling that the recipient did not or would not understand what you're explaining to them.

"To flute a cow" has a derogative sense in that you are the person (or the person who is explaining or saying something) playing the "lute", implying something meaningful or which makes sense, but the recipient is a "cow", who is so dumb or ignorant that it cannot or won't understand how wonderful the sound of the "lute".
