English version:

Next Monday, I'll get COVID & flu shots at a local clinic. This will be the fifth COVID shot I've had in the past year-and-a-half, and the first flu shot I've had in the past three years. I hope the side effects from getting these two shots together won't be too serious.

Tuesday is election day, but I've already submitted my ballot, so I won't need to stand in line to vote that day. I'll work all day and check the election results online in the evening and the next morning.

Wednesday & Thursday are normal working days.

I don't need to work on Friday because my company gives all employees the first Friday of each month off as a "balance day." I haven't yet made plans for the three-day weekend.

(在)下个礼拜一,我会去诊所打COVID和流感预防针。

在大陆,我们通常说“周一”或“星期一”,“预防针”也没错,但我们更习惯说“疫苗”。

这会是我这一年半以来第五次打的COVID针,而且是三年以来第一次打流感针。

我觉得保留“会”是没错的,因为这表示将来—will。

希望一次打两针不会让我有/出现太严重的后遗症!副作用!Or:......不会出现什么副作用(This means you hope there aren’t any side-effect.)

Your original sentence implied that you thought there must be some sequels and you hoped it wouldn’t be that bad. 关于其中一个修改者说—除非是特别强烈的感情抒发,一般不用感叹号,这种说法我是不认同的,我一般想强调某事某情感就会使用。

周二是选举日,但我已经投票了,所以没必要当天排队投。

“已经投票了” or “已经投过票了” sounds the same to me. They are all correct.

当天晚上和第二天早上我会查网络新闻看投票结果。

It’s bad when I correct the sentences, I can’t see others’ corrections, so it’s hard to compare the corrections.

Thanks very much for sharing your opinions & suggestions, xq. This is really helpful to me.

I also find it frustrating that we can’t see others’ corrections while we are correcting. To get around this, I often open two browser windows, one to read others’ corrections, and another to enter my own corrections. This is tedious, though. I brought up a related topic in the community forum and the developer expressed some willingness to address this issue: https://community.langcorrect.com/t/collaborative-correcting/

One feature that I really like about LangCorrect is the ability to edit our corrections after we’ve submitted them. This is useful to me since I often make mistakes in my corrections and like to go back and fix them. :-)

1. 我觉得“这会是”跟“这将会是”没有什么区别,无非是第二个更具体一点而已。
2. 突然看到有人将“后遗症”改为“副作用”,我也觉得这个更贴合打疫苗这件事,因为后遗症从字面上来理解,顾名思义就是疾病在康复之后,遗留下来的某些症状。临床上药物的副作用是指在使用某种药物时,按照正常的剂量和频次,患者出现与治疗效果相反或无关的反应。

抱歉,昨晚修改时没有想到。

Also, Say “周三、四” or “周三、周四” is totally correct, the first one sounds informal, and the second one is formal.

I thought so! Thanks. 😁

By the way, there’s an important difference between Lang-8 and LangCorrect that I learned “the hard way”: in Lang-8, in your own post, if you edit a sentence AFTER you have received corrections for that sentence, you will still be able to see the “old” corrections, but in LangCorrect, those old corrections will disappear! Therefore, if you want to save an old correction, before you edit the sentence you need to “reply” to the correction. Replying will copy the correction into the comments section so you’ll be able to see it even after you’ve edited the original sentence.

You know, what really moved me of this website is that it seems like English entries are very likely to be corrected by native English speakers. It definitely motivates English learners to continue to update here. However, in Lang-8, it’s sad to see many English posts that nobody corrects. During these past few years, I have been always looking forward to the day when Lang-8 accepted the registration of new members. I hope both or either website will be active, because for those who really wants to master English, they really need such a correcting website. Every time I log in Lang-8 and see you are still active, I’m so happy for English learners. Your corrections really motivates them to learn English well.

Yes, I’ve also noticed that English posts tend to get a lot more corrections here than in Lang-8. I assume that this is because the ratio of native English speakers to English learners is much higher here, which is probably due to the fact that LangCorrect is based in the West (maybe in the US), whereas Lang-8 is Japanese, and both systems tend to draw users from their local areas.

One thing I’ve noticed about the English corrections, though, is that the corrections I see right now on LangCorrect often contain a lot of errors—the native English speakers making these corrections probably aren’t very good English writers—but on Lang-8 right now, most of the corrections are quite good. I’m not sure why, but I know that Lang-8 has managed to retain about half a dozen English correctors who are very dedicated and conscientious, and they correct so many posts that (I think) they tend to raise the general standard of correction there.

I couldn’t open the link, but I’m sad to hear this news. Hopefully, LangCorrect will be a good substitution.

With curiosity, I read some Chinese corrections, their qualities are similar to Lang-8’s. Thanks for telling me that many English corrections have errors, if not, I will assume that are fine. It’s really hard to distinguish from right to wrong. Hope the quality will get better.
