私はこのビデオクリップを見ました（https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccyu44rsaZo）。その中に１９６０年代にテレビでハンター・S・トンプソンはインタビューを受けました。トンプソンは「ラスベガスでの恐怖と嫌悪」という本を書いたで有名な作家と記者です。この本を書く前に、彼は一年間ヘルズ・エンジェルスというバイカーギャングと住み、彼らについて本を書きました。それから、ヘルズ・エンジェルスのメンバーはトンプソンと議論するの為にテレビ番組で出ました。ヘルズ・エンジェルスのメンバーは「トンプソンの本はクズでヘルズ・エンジェルスはバイクに乗るのが好きな普通の人だ」と言っていました。また彼はトンプソンがヘルズ・エンジェルスにビールを買ってあげるという約束を守らなかったでむかつきました。その理由はトンプソンはヘルズ・エンジェルスが妻を殴るのを見たからです。トンプソンは止めに入り、五人ほどのヘルズ・エンジェルスに猛烈に殴られました。ヘルズ・エンジェルスメンバーは「トンプソンが私事に口出しして、女の人を大人しくする為に、時々殴らなきゃ」と言っていました。この発言でスタジオの観客は笑って拍手しました。見た時、私はびっくりしました。１９６０年代でも、妻を殴る事は社会的に容認できる行為ではないでしょう。観客はブラックユーモアが好きだったかもしれません。

I watched this video clip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccyu44rsaZo). It shows Hunter S. Thompson being interviewed on TV in the 1960s. Thompson was an author and journalist famous for writing Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. But before that, he spent a year living with a biker gang called the Hell's Angels and wrote a book about them. Because of this, a member of the Hell's Angels was invited onto the TV show to confront Thompson. He said that Thompson's book was trash and that Hell's Angels members are just normal people who happen to like riding bikes. He was also annoyed that Thompson had broken his promise to buy the Hell's Angels beer. The reason for this was that Thompson had seen one of the Hell's Angels members beating his wife. Thompson tried to intervene, and then about five of the Hell's Angels savagely beat him. The Hell's Angels member said that Thompson had interfered in something that wasn't his business, and that you sometimes have to beat women to keep them in line. The studio laughed and applauded at this statement. I was shocked when I watched it. Surely even in the 1960s wife beating wasn't socially acceptable? Maybe the audience just had a very dark sense of humor.
