ドラム初心者の体験

僕は1ヶ月半前にドラムを習い始めた。その体験について書きたいと思う。
友達とバンドを作りたかったけど、ドラマーの友達がいなくて、ある日「じゃ、俺はドラマーになる」と決めた。前に、僕はピアノとバイオリンを弾いたことがあるから、楽譜が読めてドラムはそんなに難しくないと思った。しかし、現実は全然そういうわけではなかった。
ドラムという楽器は、パーカッションだから、他のトーナルの楽器とかなり違っている（メロディーはあまり引けないのだ）。叩くときに考えることも違う。ピアノは、いつもメロディーに気を付ける。だが、ドラムはもっと曲の構想について考えなければならない。なぜかというと、「今の部分はAメロだけど、次はサビ？またはBメロ？」という質問がかなり多いからだ。
その上、手足は全部同時に使っているが、手足それぞれのリズムは一様ではない場合がよくある。そして、頭の中に目的のドラムパタンが分かっていても、手足がコントロールできなくて弾けない時もある。
もちろん、価値のあるものは簡単にできるわけがない。難しいといっても、だんだん上手になって、自分が好きな曲が叩くようになるのは楽しいのだ。

Around one and a half months ago I started learning drums. I want talk about my experience so far.
I wanted to start a band with friends, but I didn't know anyone who was a drummer. One day I decided that "I'll just be the drummer." I have some experience with playing piano and violin, plus I can read music so I didn't think drums would be too difficult. How wrong I was..

As an instrument, the drums is completely different to other tonal instruments (since it can't really play the melody). As such, what you think about when you play is also completely different. With piano, you pay attention to the melody most of the time. But with the drums, your focus is often on the structure of the song. This is because often you'll have questions like "this is the verse section but what comes next? Chorus or pre-chorus?"

On top of that, your four limbs (hands and feet) have to play different rhythms at the same time. As such, there are often times when you know what to play, but you just lack the coordination and control to play it.

Of course, nothing worth doing is easy. Even though it's hard, getting better slowly and being able to play songs I like has been a lot of fun.
