I thoughtink that this rat was so adorable because I could imagine he probably wanted to bring back food to hits family.

"I think" is better because you still think this now. "I thought" sounds like you used to think it but now have a different opinion.

Harridan is a very unusual word that many native speakers probably don't know.

I’m not sure what pronouns we use for animals these days. Itself? Him/herself?
