To begin with, to attend boarding schools, students can be more independent. Living in a dormitory can be a challenge as they need to do everything by themselves, like doing laundry or cleaning up their room, helping students learn basic living skills. For example, in some universities, parents are not allowed to help their children do anything even on check-in day. In this case, students have to iron out all problems by themselves, like lifting up their heavy suitcases to upper stairs and making their bed, which trains them to become more independent.
Furthermore, living together with their peers is beneficial for students to learn how to deal with interpersonal relationships. By gathering individuals with different personalities together, day in and day out, it is inevitable to have disputes among them. In this case, figuring out how to get along well with each other is crucial for them. For instance, they may have arguments for some trifles like placing their own stuff on theirs’ desks. Without dealing well with these things, they may suffer from bad interpersonal relationships. For this reason, it also plays a significant role in their later life.
In conclusion, living in a boarding school makes a contribution to students’ independence by doing everything by themselves and interpersonal relationship skills by learning how to get along well with their roommates.
