Dubbed Vs Subtitled!

Writing Challenge: Day 14
Wednesday, April 14th, 2021

I remember that watching subtitled movies and series in my childhood, made me fall in love with other languages. Listening to the actors in their native languages, then reading what they meant in the subtitles, was always more fun than listening to them in a dubbed language.

Any dubbed program gives me a headache. The dubbing language has different phonemes/phonetics than the original language. I can't imagine watching an Italian movie dubbed in another language and be able to feel the Italian culture.

The whole dubbing industry makes me feel that the devil who seems to be monolingual, took a decision to make people ignorant about other languages, or make them lose the motivation to learn them.

It's ok if some of us don't wish to learn a second language, but dubbing encourages laziness, like "hey, you don't even have to think, let me just speak in your language." ;)

Dubbed Vs Subtitled!

Writing Challenge: Day 14

I remember that watching subtitled movies and series in my childhood, made me fall in love with other languages.

Listening to the actors in their native languages, then reading what they meantthe translation in the subtitles, was always more fun than listening to them in a dubbed language.

"what they meant" has a slightly different meaning than what you intend to say here. You often hear someone saying, "What he meant to say was...", which means that the original statement was incorrect or unclear, and now the speaker is attempting to clarify. That's different than what subtitles offer, which is a translation, not a clarification.

Any dubbed program gives me a headache.

The dubbinged language has different phonemes/phonetics than the original language.

I can't imagine watching an Italian movie dubbed in another language and be able to feel the Italian culture.

The whole dubbing industry makes me feel that the devil who seems to be monolingual, tookas if they are a monolingual devil, who made a decision to makeep people ignorant aboutof other languages, or make them lose the motivationdiscourage them to learn them.

The original sentence is awkward, and some phrases do not make sense.

It's ok if some of us don't wish to learn a second language, but dubbing encourages laziness, likeas if to say "hey, you don't even have to think, let me just speak in your language."

I appreciate you correcting and rephrasing it : )
Sometimes I write while thinking in Arabic, and the result is an awkward sentence 😹
