Diary: Conversation With Restaurant Owner

We have 2 mobile TVs on our buses. Today I saw a news on bus's TV about an American principal who was suspended for hitting a child with a wooden board.

After working part-time today, I went back to the restaurant and I was surprised that the owner remembered me. He served the wrong meal, for he misheard my order of "rice noodles" as "rice"— they sound likely in Chinese. I didn't mind, but our conversation began. He asked me where I worked, and I told him about working on the part-time kindergarten across the street. He said he had delivered food there. The restaurant was one of the only restaurants around. He did say that it was a private kindergarten and that the teachers there were bad, and even violent. They beat children a lot, it's true. I did see teachers hitting children in kindergarten. When a child hit another child, they always encouraged him hitting back. I also saw a class president in one elementary school hit a classmate's hand with a wooden ruler. Because of the Chinese culture, many conservative people believe that punishment with sticks can produce talents. I'm glad the owner doesn't agree with this. After that he said that it was better to work in a public kindergarten than in a private one because the pension was guaranteed. While boys choose to work hard and challenge themselves, girls need to find a stable job. It is better for girls to go to civil service or become a teacher because it is the "secure job". This is also the idea of many people, but I totally don't agree. Maybe I'll write about this in my diary later.
