A Dial Lock
I tried to open a 3-digit dial lock that I had locked five years ago. At first, I tested some numbers I remembered dimly but it didn't open. So, I did a brute force attack from 000 to 999. I could unlock it at 890, and I regretted not starting from 999, and my index finger is sore now.

So, I did a brute force attack going from 000 to 999.
I could unlocked it at 890, and I regretted not starting from 999, and since my index finger is sore now.
"And" was understandable, but "since" makes the cause/effect relationship more obvious and sounds more natural.
