There is currently a discussion whether university students should spend all their time and attention to studying for a qualification instead of learn about other main subjects. I genuinely think that spending time learning about other disciplines is as important as studying the main subject at university.

Firstly, students who enroll in other classes that are not entirely aligned with their major have a more holistic perspective. Although many of those classes are not requisites to graduate, these can provide new ways of thinking that can be beneficial for the major itself. For instance, my boyfriend who is a physics student took some biology classes because he was interested to learn about that subject. That is the reason he ended up doing a thesis mixing both subjects, that contributed to the physics research in his university.

Secondly, learning about other subjects in addition to the main subjects encourages students to enjoy learning and equip them with knowledge useful for life. When people take other courses for the pure satisfaction of learning, they get information easily and can use this knowledge in various areas of their life. For example, when students learn about finance, they can use this understanding to make smart financial decisions. When they learn about philosophy, students can think more critically about the world and the predominant ideas.

In conclusion, studying different subjects at university that are not the main courses of the major allows students to gain a holistic perspective and use this knowledge in their daily life.

There is currently a discussion on whether university students should spend all their time and attention to studying for a qualification instead of learning about other main subjects.

I genuinely think that spending time learning about other disciplines is (just) as important as studying the main subject at universityone's major.

Adding "just" is optional in this case - your original sentence is correct. Adding it would emphasize your point.

Firstly, students who enroll in other classes that are not entirely aligned with their major have a more holistic perspective.

Although many of(taking) thoese classes are not requisitesred to graduate, thesey can provide new ways of thinking that can be beneficial for the major itself.

For instance, my boyfriend, who is a physics student, took some biology classes because he was interested toin learning about that subject.

That is the reason he ended up doing a thesis mixing both subjects, thatwhich contributed to the physics research in his university.

Secondly, learning about other subjects in addition to the main subjectsone's major encourages students to enjoy learning and equips them with knowledge useful for life.

When people take other courses for the pure satisfaction of learning, they get information easily and can use this knowledge in various areas of their life.

For example, when students learn about finance, they can use this knowledge/understanding to make smart financial decisions.

I would use "knowledge" in this context since it is related to things learned in a class. However, using "understanding" is technically correct in this context.

When they learn about philosophy, students can think more critically about the world and the predominant ideas.

In conclusion, studying different subjects at university that are not the main courses of the major allows students to gain a holistic perspective and use this knowledge in their daily life.

This was a great essay! I agree with your point about how learning other disciplines helps students become more well-rounded, which leads them to having more holistic perspectives about different topics.

When you phrase the sentence like "That is the reason ...", the emphasis is on identifying the reason for the event that comes next, rather than on the event itself.
