Robinson Crusoe has been shown on the screen many times. The 1972 Soviet version was relatively honest to the novel. One day a band of cannibals arrived by boat and were about to execute one of their members. Robinson Crusoe rescued him and named the man Friday. The original setting of "Friday" in the novel was a native American. He had a brown skin, black hair, bright eyes and white teeth. However, the "Friday" character in the American version was portrayed as a black man.
