My friend Khurshed

Names are more than mere labels, they are imbued with historical and cultural significance. One of of my Muslim friends is called Khurshed, a name that carries with it a rich tapestry of meaning and history. The name Khurshed is of Persian origin and is most commonly used in regions influenced by Persian culture and language, such as Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. The name itself is a combination of two Persian words: “khur,” which means sun, and “shed,” implying brightness or shining. Therefore, Khurshed can be interpreted to mean “shining sun”, making it a name that evokes images of brilliance, warmth, and energy. Khurshed remains a moderately popular name today, especially in regions with Persian influences. My friend Khurshed prays five times a day.
