In Japan, Grogu is booming right now.
Fundamentally, relatively few Japanese people subscribe to Disney+, so Disney+ original series are not well known in Japan.
Also, Star Wars is seen as an outdated movie franchise that elderly men are fascinated with in Japan. Even among Disney fans, some of them haven't seen the Star Wars series.
Disney may assume that demand for Star Wars is low in Japan. There is only one Star Wars–themed attraction, Star Tours, at Tokyo Disneyland.
However, Grogu attracts many women who had never been interested in Star Wars, because although he looks a bit strange, he has adorable, baby-like gestures.
I heard that more and more people have decided to subscribe to Disney+ after seeing the latest movie.
I subscribe to Disney+ again whenever the number of movies I want to see increases. I have never seen The Mandalorian or any Star Wars series.
There are so many Star Wars series that I hesitate to start watching them. (I finally watched the Marvel series for events at Tokyo Disneyland a few years ago.)

前提として、日本ではディズニー＋加入者が比較的少ないため、ディズニー＋オリジナル作品の知名度は高くありません。また、スターウォーズそのものも「おっさんの見る映画」というイメージが強く、ディズニーファンですら見たことない人も多いです。 ディズニー社も日本でのスターウォーズシリーズの需要が薄いと判断しているのか、東京ディズニーランドにはスターツアーズしかスターウォーズ関連施設がありません。
しかし、一見すると気持ち悪いキャラ造型に反した赤ちゃんみたいな愛らしい仕草が功を奏したのか、グローグーが今までスターウォーズに関心のなかった女性層の心を掴みました。
映画きっかけにディズニー＋に加入する人も増えているそうです。
私はといいますと――見たい作品が溜まったら都度ディズニー＋を契約しているのですが、マンダロリアンどころか未だスターウォーズシリーズを一作も見ていません。 作品数が多すぎて躊躇してしまいます。 （マーベルシリーズもTDLのイベント開始に合わせてようやく視聴しました(笑)）

I am an Elder Millennial but never had a strong childhood attachment to Star Wars until I saw the films as a teenager. My interest gravitates more toward horror and there's not a lot of that in Star Wars. That said, I do enjoy the films and will watch them, but also have not gone out of my way to watch the newer things (much like my attitude toward Marvel movies). Why people liked The Mandalorian is that it felt like it expanded the Star Wars universe a bit and Grogu was definitely a huge part of the attraction. However, if you watch any series on Disney+ that's Star Wars-related, you should watch Andor, which is two seasons, tells a succinct story (related to Rogue One), and is widely-regarded. Highly recommend.
Thank you for your feedback. I’ve seen most of the standalone Marvel movies like Iron Man and Ant-Man, as well as the Avengers films. But I haven’t watched any of the Disney+ series or the newer Marvel stuff. I’ve heard Andor is really good, though—I might give it a try.

I'm not sure about Tokyo Disneyland, but at California Disney, Star Tours was not a star was related ride but rather just going into space, however, they recently revamped the ride, so now, it is the same ride and experience, but now it is Star Wars themed and it is called Star Tours: The Adventure Continues. Edit: I just looked it up and actually, it was always Star Wars themed, but if I am not mistaken, when I was a kid and I rode it, I didn't recognize any of the characters being from Star Wars, only that the planet we were going to was from Star Wars. But I know that now, after the revamp in 2010, it is very clearly Star Wars themed with C3P0 and R2D2 now as the characters.

I think even that if there are multiple events at Tokyo Disney based around the movie, I would consider that one event if the theme of all the events are for the same series.

Very nice writing! I didn't know that Disney+ was not that popular in Japan. But I agree, I think many people in America are also not that interested in Star Wars anymore, not like the cult following it had when it first came out. Even me, I have seen the originals but as for the newer ones, it is hard for me to follow and I haven't seen any of the series either. Same with Marvel, there are just so many, I really only watch the Avengers movies haha.

Many people hesitate to subscribe to multiple services, so the number of Disney+ users hasn’t increased much. Despite the relatively low number of Disney+ users, various Disney content is well known to Japanese people, such as animated movies, theme parks, and live performances produced by Shiki Theatre Company.

Well done! The Star Wars franchise is indeed overwhelming, and there are a lot of not-so-good Star Wars series. I heard from a friend that the best one is "Andor", though I haven't seen it myself.

I would argue that it's getting to be the same here. Probably only Gen X and elder Millennials still like Star Wars.

Yeah, I would only watch the original trilogy. I liked The Empire Strikes Back the best. Rogue One was good, too. My sister said she liked Andor.
Thank you for your feedback. That’s interesting. I always thought Star Wars was still really popular in the U.S., especially after seeing how crowded Galaxy’s Edge was.
I think it was crowded when it first opened. I heard it doesn't attract as many people as they thought it would now. But, I wouldn't know, either. The parks have become so expensive, nobody in my family wants to go. Last year, we only went to the free park, Disney Springs, while we were in Orlando.
Yeah, I know it’s really expensive, but I’d still love to visit WDW at least once in my life. Since Tokyo Disney Resort has some similar attractions and I’m not really into thrill rides, I think one park per day would be enough for me. I’m actually more interested in the areas outside the parks—like the hotels, Disney Springs, and the BoardWalk. How many days do you think it would take to explore all the free areas?
I think Disney Springs would be a 1 day outing. That's the only free area I went to. I could see it taking longer if you are doing extensive shopping, though. It's basically a shopping center with extras.
