Journal 3- K-Drama,‘Crash Landing on You’

Despite the fact that I am Korean, I have always preferred watching American TV shows to Korean Dramas. Although I previously enjoyed a few K-Dramas, (such as Woman with Class) I always thought their storylines were a bit corny (/lame) and predictable.

But recently, out of boredom and curiosity, I decided to watch this K-Drama on Netflix, ‘Crash Landing on You,’ that features YeJin Son and HyunBin, and I greatly enjoyed its story.

The brief plot summary is as follows. YJ Son, an early 30s, adopted daughter of a wealthy South Korean family, accidentally lands on the North Korea-South Korea border, in a paragliding crash. (Anyone could be killed, if she/he gets spotted by officials in the restricted area.) YJ Son was to inherit her father’s company on the day of the accident, but she finds herself in a rural North Korean town near border, her parachute blown away by a sudden hurricane.

There, she meets Jung Hyuk Lee, a high-rank North Korean soldier, whose mission, originally, was to make sure no one crosses the border. She initially fears that he is going to turn her in to the officials, (which Lee seriously considers doing, initially) but he decides to keep her and protect her at his house, despite the risk of getting himself in a huge trouble. (After conflicting thoughts, he decides to do so because he wanted to cover up his subordinates’ mistake.)

YJ Son gradually develops love for Lee who risks danger to ensure her safety. Lee also realizes that he has deep affection for Son.

After many crises, Son safely returns to South, but they miss each other. They later somehow find a way that they could be together, at the end.

(Wow, summarizing a plot is so difficult !)

Anyhow, I really enjoyed this drama as to watch the whole series twice, consecutively^^; (on fast forward, though)

It’s funny how the couple started to date (in real life) after the show. They have been ones of my favorite actors/ actresses. I wish their happiness.

Also, I am proud that Korean writers have created this unique and beautiful piece/ scenario, whose story could have taken place only in Korea, not somewhere else. (for Korea being the only divided nation on earth)

Wow, thank you very much! I'll keep them in mind: > Do you think it is awkward if I use ' I am ' instead of ' I'm'..??

There are very few settings where it's considered too formal to use contractions. They're a regular part of everyday life and you'll see them everywhere (especially in speaking, where triple contractions like "shouldn't've" can be formed, although they're technically not grammatically correct).

I wish their happiness.
