I felt happy when I heard my family’s history. It was very cute to hear all the details of my grandmother’s love history with my grandfather. However, I felt sad about the death of my father because I never knew him. I also felt compassion and curiosity because now I know the struggles that my family faced and how they did their best to overcome hard times. I think that hearing my family’s history made me feel closer to my family. My family also felt heard and happy because I asked them some questions and I paid attention to them.

"On December holiday" doesn't sound natural. I think you need to clarify of whom the holiday was. Saying "on their December holiday" is probably the most natural way.
