ハリケーン「イアン」

今週はとても強くて大きいなハリケーンはフロリダ州に襲ってきました。その名は「イアン」です。「イアン」はフロリダの西海岸に上陸して、東海岸にある私の住んでいる町に到着するときはもうだいぶ弱くなってきました。危ないから町の役人に外に出かけないように注意されました。今朝からずっと雨が降ったり、風が強く吹いたりしています。でもまだ停電がしていない。ただインターネット接続が時々消えます。

もう慣れているから、フロリダ人はハリケーンの強さを軽視する傾向があります。そのため、ハリケーンのときに避難命令を従わないで家にいることにする人がたくさんいます。それはいいとは思いません。だから家や車などがハリケーンで壊れても新しいのを買うことが出来ますよね。しかし、一つしかない命を落とした場合はそうはいきません。皆は自分のことをもっと大切にした方がいいと思います。

ニュースによると「イアン」の影響で起きた大水によってもう数百人が亡くなりましたらしいです。そして「イアン」は今サウスカロライナ州に向かっているようです。皆は気を付けてください。

This week a very large and powerful hurricane struck the state of Florida. It's name is "Ian". Ian made landfall on the west coast of Florida, and by the time it reached the East Coast, where the town I live in is, it had weakened greatly. The town officials warned us not to go outside because it is dangerous. Since this morning it's been raining, and we've had some strong winds. But we haven't had a power outage yet. It's just the internet connection goes out sometimes.

Because we are used to hurricanes, Floridians have a tendency to dismiss their strength. Because of that, there are a lot of people who don't heed orders to evacuate and instead chose to ride out the hurricane at home.
I don't think that's good. Even if your house or car get destroyed by the hurricane, you can buy new ones, you know. But that's not the case if you lose your one and only life. I think we all should place more important on ourselves.

According to the news, hundreds of people have already lost their lives from the flooding caused by Ian. And now it appears that Ian is heading towards South Carolina. Everyone, please stay safe.
